A unique African tree could dramatically improve the yield of crops planted under its canopy by providing natural, renewable fertilizer, says a new study.
The tree has the potential to aid farmers throughout Africa, South America, and much of south and Southeast Asia, according to the researchers. msnbc story

Grants for groups for farming
2009 Project Orange Thumb Grant
Gardening projects geared toward community involvement, neighborhood beautification, sustainable agriculture and/or horticultural education are eligible to apply for a Project Orange Thumb grant for gardening tools and other related materials. Community garden groups, as well as schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, and treatment facilities are all encouraged to apply. Only group applications will be considered; single individuals are not eligible for a grant. The deadline for the 2009 grants is February 19, 2009.
