DESCRIPTION
Resilience planning can help communities achieve economic recovery, stability, and growth. Flooding  and storms put pressure on south Louisiana's communities to be in a continual 'rebuilding' phase. But, it's hard to address this challenge when the disasters - from hurricanes to smaller scale flooding - keep coming. How do communities create long-term economic opportunities in an unstable environment?

This resilience planning workshop will provide community leaders with tools to create economic development that lasts. This event will discuss:

• Recovery from Disasters: How neighborhoods can use their unique strengths to prepare for disasters, so that homes and businesses recover more quickly.
• Safeguarding Communities Against Risk: How to plan at the neighborhood, community, and regional scales to reduce risk and maximize economic potential.
• Planning for Economic Growth: How to grow and diversify your local economy by taking advantage of 21st Century economic development sectors that center on the emerging "green economy."

This one-day workshop will provide specific planning tools and examples. Small group activities and discussions will examine which strategies have worked elsewhere and how we can adapt lessons learned to our challenges here in south Louisiana.

Who Should Attend?
Planners, economic development professionals, parish and local elected officials, local government staff, policy-makers, designers, emergency managers, community advocates.

Cost is free but space is limited. Please RSVP in advance to mlrap@lsu.edu to secure a spot. Attendees can self-report professional development/continuing education credits. Upon request, CSS will provide proof of attendance.
